For class September 22:
1. Make a list of artists you like and what you would steal
from them. Example: Peter Doig—phosphorescent look of color and paint; Honore
Sharrer—mystery and humor of symbolism of objects… You can refer to the list
you made of old favorite artists before the first class, but go beyond, and
don’t be afraid to include artists whose work has aspects you love, but which
you don’t love overall.
2. Think back to all the group critiues you have ever
participated in. What crit experiences have you found especially helpful.
Describe them. We will share these good crit experiences in class in the hopes
of learning something to improve the quality of crits this semester.
We will have our first crit Sept. 22-- if you are in critique group 1, be sure to bring work. After the crit, we will do some art-making games. Please bring basic drawing supplies, paper, and whatever supplies you bring when we are doing studies. I will also have some supplies to supplement.
