For Class October 20

By class time October 20, please respond to the following in writing on your blog:

Think of a movie, you love the look of-- a movie you love for its visual qualities (not plot, actors, setting, though you may also love those). You may think of a scene from a movie, rather than a whole movie, if you wish.

Describe those visual qualities as well as you can. You may be able to find stills or clips from the movie online to jog your memory. Consider color, value key, framing (composition), scale, texture, light, shape, mood, movement... What make the movie look like it does?

Finally, what theme or themes did the movie address through those visual qualities, and/or what imagery was important in the movie?

Here is an example of a description of a movie's visual qualities, though your responses could be quite different because your movies will be different:
Drowning by Numbers:
Twilight colors dominate, blue and green light.
Lots of odd, complicated, linear structures (things on legs, or like scaffolding).
The camera generally takes in a whole scene at once, not zooming in on anything, but there is often some object that pops within the scene for its luminous color, and/or for having a number on it. These objects cause our attention to zoom in.
The camera is constantly moving slowly across the scene.
